Spirit, Tasmania Cruise ex Sydney Roundtrip
5 Night Cruise sailing from Sydney roundtrip aboard Carnival Spirit.
This is the floating resort that ushered in the Spirit-class ships with innovations such as the two-level promenade and the reservations-only supper club. Her greater speed -- and the fact that most of her staterooms have ocean views, and of those, the majority have balconies -- make CARNIVAL SPIRIT the perfect ship for extra-special itineraries around Australia, New Zealand & the South Pacific.
Carnival Spirit features amazing activities, dining and amenities to satisfy every member of the family. There are youth programs for the young ones, and an onboard golf program and the Spa Carnival for the adults. There are four swimming pools and four whirlpools onboard, along with a padded jogging deck, a fitness centre with yoga, spinning and treadmills. Spend an afternoon browsing the Fun Shops, playing at the 9-hole mini-golf course, or having fun in the Techno Arcade. And for thrill-seekers, the new Green Thunder waterslide is a must-try!
Highlights of this cruise:
Sydney
Sydney is located on the south-east coast of Australia. It is the largest and most populated city in Australia and the state capital of New South Wales. The city is built on hills surrounding Sydney Harbour where the Sydney Harbour bridge and the Sydney Opera House are located. The region features many bays, rivers, inlets and beaches including the famous Bondi Beach. Within the city are many picturesque parks including Hyde Park and the Royal Botanical Gardens.
The most well-known attractions include the Sydney Opera House and the Sydney Harbour Bridge. Other attractions include Royal Botanical Gardens, Luna Park, some 40 beaches and Sydney Tower. The Rocks precinct includes the first colonial village of Sydney and some great shops, cafes and galleries are located here. Sydney also has several popular museums, such as the Australian Museum (natural history and anthropology), the Powerhouse Museum (science, technology and design), the Art Gallery of New South Wales, the Museum of Contemporary Art and the Australian National Maritime Museum.
Hobart
There’s definitely something fishy about Hobart. Get it - because of all the fish, oh never mind. There are plenty to catch and of course plenty to eat. But Hobart had some bigger fish to fry back in the 1830’s when it was a whaling city. Ok, technically they’re not fish, but you know what we mean. If you’re lucky, maybe you’ll spot one.
That is if you can take your eyes off the spectacular Mt Wellington that hogs the Hobart skyline of course. The mountain is about 1300m high and is suitable for hiking (or driving if you don’t have the energy). You’ll have to hold on tight if you reach the top though - it’s pretty blustery up there. And if you’d rather stay on ground level, the waterfront is the perfect place for a wee stroll amongst all the 19th century warehouses have that been transformed into all sorts of modern things.
Sure, Hobart isn’t a whaling town now, but you’re still guaranteed a whale of a time nonetheless. Boom tish.
Port Arthur
Once the home of convicts and settlers, it’s now home to some rather ghostly characters. Wooooo. Port Arthur was established as a convict settlement in the 19th century and soon became home to the hardest British and Irish criminals. It’s these same criminals (in see-through form) that have been spotted haunting the town. So is it silly ghost stories, or convicts with some unfinished business?
It’s Port Arthur’s history and spooky stories that have made it Tasmania’s number one tourist destination. And it sure is a fascinating history. Port Arthur’s tough security measures have become the stuff of legend. The only escape route from the prison was guarded by soldiers, mantraps and half-starved dogs. Then escapees had to brave the shark-infested waters. That didn’t stop inmates from trying though.
So get yourself down to Port Arthur and who knows, maybe you’ll have an encounter of the sixth-sense kind.
