RACING ON THE RIVER - By any measure, the Ohio River is no mere tributary to the Mississippi, but a mighty river unto itself. On this new itinerary, you will embark on a cruise imbued with the heritage of small town America and the nostalgia of America's vibrant steamboating history. As you discover the charming attractions of quaint ports that have long been guest favorites, you will have the opportunity to take part in themed racing events such as a 5k run in Augusta, and experience the thrill of horse racing at the famed track at Churchill Downs in Louisville. But racing on the river just wouldn't seem right without the excitement of riverboat racing, so join us onboard as we challenge riverboats, such as the Belle of Louisville, for a good old-fashioned race on the river!
Day by Day Itinerary:
Day 1: Hotel Stay - Memphis, TN
Enjoy your included, one-night stay at the historic Peabody Hotel in downtown Memphis. The evening is yours to get self-acquainted with this city's famed eateries, unique shops and lively entertainment.
Our Hospitality Desk will be located in the hotel for your convenience between 3:00 PM and 7:00 PM. It is here that our friendly staff can assist with everything from general questions about your upcoming voyage to reserving Premium Shore Excursions. An American Queen Steamboat Company representative, as well as a local representative, will be readily available to provide you with dining, entertainment, and sight-seeing suggestions so that you may maximize your time in Memphis.
Day 2: Memphis, TN, Departure 5:00 PM
Today is the day you have been waiting for! Prepare to embark on an unforgettable journey down America’s largest and most historical river.
If you haven’t gotten your full dose of Memphis yet, visit the AQSC Hospitality Desk (Open at 8:30 AM!) for ideas about how to spend your day. The official Voyage Check-In will be open from 9:00 AM to 12:00 PM. During this fast and easy procedure, our representatives will arrange your transfer to the vessel and answer any questions you might have. The process is simple and will have you back to exploring in no time, and, if you think of any more questions, the Hospitality Desk will be at your service until 3:00 PM, when the complimentary boat transfers will begin!

Day 3: River Cruising
There is always plenty to do between dawn and dusk on the river and today is the perfect day to enjoy the many public spaces and activities that are available to you onboard. Gaze at the beautiful landscapes and small river towns as you mingle with fellow guests and discuss the unique aspects of river life. If you fancy a moment for yourself, retreat to The Lincoln Library adorned with ornate bookcases stocked with an imaginative selection. Take hold of a literary classic, curl up on a plush chair in a cozy corner and relish every moment of serenity. Our fitness facility, business center, movie theater and grand lobby offer a more stimulating day on the river for those who wish to indulge in more energy-infused activity. However you wish to spend your day, make it your own and revel in every moment.
Day 4: Paducah, KY
Paducah embraces their harmonious history between the European settlers and the Padoucca Indians native to the area. The city is located at the confluence of the Ohio and the Tennessee Rivers and because of this, it is often called the Four-Rivers Area due to the proximity of the Ohio, Cumberland, Tennessee, and Mississippi Rivers. This prime location has played a major role in Paducah’s history, as transportation was easily accessible – the economy was strong and travelers were frequent!

Day 5: Henderson, KY
Framed by nature, the area comprising Henderson, Kentucky, originally known as the great hunting and fishing mecca of American Indians, was first seen by a group of men including Thomas Walker and Daniel Boone, who found their way into the area through the Cumberland Gap. Henderson’s wooded hills and lush vegetation attracted legendary naturalist, John James Audubon, who operated a mill on the riverfront from 1810 to 1819, just one block from the center of the present business district. Thousands of people annually visit Audubon State Park and Museum, boasting the largest collection of John James Audubon original art and artifacts. A vibrant downtown, river up close, and with nature and history as its backdrop, Henderson is a progressive, small Southern town that also has its heritage deeply embedded within its borders and embraced by its citizens.

Day 6: Owensboro, KY
The first European descdant to settle in Owensboro was frontiersman William Smeathers or Smothers in 1797, from whom the Riverfront park is named. The settlement was originally known as Yellow Banks from the color of the land beside the Ohio River. The Lewis and Clark Expedition wintered at what is today's Owensboro prior to departing on their famous travels. In 1817, Yellow Banks was formally established under the name Owensborough, named after Col. Abraham Owen. In 1893, the spellung of the name was shortened to its current Owensboro. There have been several distillers, mainly of bourbon whiskey, in and around the city of Owensboro. The major distillery still in operation is the Glenmore Distillery Company. Owensboro is home to famous actor Johnny Depp, as he is a member of an old and prodigious Kentucky family.

Day 9: Cincinnati, OH
Amidst the gently rolling hills along the Ohio River, Cincinnati spreads from the southwestern corner of Ohio into Northern Kentucky and Southeastern Indiana. The city is located about mid-point on the shoreline of the 981-mile long Ohio River. John Filson, one of the first settlers in the Ohio Valley community, named it Losantiville, meaning “town opposite the mouth” of the Licking River. The community was the location of Fort Washington, which provided military protection for the surrounding territories. In 1790, General Arthur St. Clair, Commander of Fort Washington, renamed it Cincinnati in honor of the society of Cincinnati, an organization of Revolutionary War officers.

Augusta, Kentucky is located in Bracken County at the confluence of the Ohio River and Bracken Creek. The city offers and incredible long-range view of the picturesque river valley, known to be one of the most stunning views of the valley in the state of Kentucky. Augusta was regarded as one of the most popular shipping ports during the agricultural growth era. Tobacco, hemp, livestock, and wine were frequently exported from Augusta to surrounding areas. Today, the city continues to grow and welcomes visitors of all ages!

Day 13: Point Pleasant, WV
In the second half of 1749, French explorer Pierre Celeron Joseph de Blaineville claimed French sovereignty over the Ohio Valley and buried a lead plaque at the meeting point of the Ohio and Kanawha Rivers, naming the place Point Pleasant. Visitors can learn of river life, great floods, boat construction, sternwheel steamers, river disasters and the local river industry's contribution to World War II at The Point Pleasant River Museum. Widely recognized for the 1967 collapse of the Silver Bridge which claimed the lives of 46 people, this sleepy river town became a focal point of paranormal enthusiasts in search of "Mothman," a creature said to inhabit an abandoned TNT factory from World War II. It has become more than an urban legend, and it is believed to be a harbinger of imminent disaster, now being seen around the globe before great tragedies.

Day 14: Marietta, OH
Marietta's location on two major navigable rivers made it ripe for industry and commerce in the 19th century, with boat building emerging as one of its earliest – a history that is shared at the Ohio River Museum. Oil booms in 1875 and 1910 made investors rich, leading to the construction of lavish houses, many of which still stand. In 1939, the Sons and Daughters of Pioneer Rivermen, America’s Riverboat Historical Society, was established in Marietta to celebrate the region's substantial river history. Marietta is also home to the Great Mound, or Conus, built by the Mound Builders. The mound was preserved by the original pioneers and is contained within the Mound Cemetery, which is also home to the largest number of Revolutionary War officers buried in one location.
